Years ago we were fed a fad of low fat eating. We were told that eating low fat was the healthiest thing to do. Remember SnackwellsTM? The problem is that this did not focus on the facts of health.
The fact is, we need fat in our diet. We require fat to do certain processes. For instance, we need fat to absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K. We require fat to synthesize certain molecules. Our bodies use fat to store energy.
Our problem in this country is not that we eat too much fat. It’s that we eat too much of the wrong types of fat!
In America we have a diet high in Omega-6 fats. We should have a diet balanced between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats. Our ratio should be 1:1 or 2:1 and our standard American eats a diet closer to 16:1 Omega-6’s to Omega-3’s!
So, we should strive to be more aware of what we are eating. Add more Omega-3’s to your diet.
Walnuts, Flaxseed, Fish oils are all good sources of healthy Omega-3 fats.
These are essential to good health!
