Flu Fighting Vitamin D

Vitamin-DDeficient Vitamin D Levels This Time of Year

Some of you came to our “Flu Prevention Talk” a week ago.  We discussed several research studies both on the flu shot and also the natural supplement Vitamin D.

Basically, we are meant to get our vitamin D from sunlight when the sun’s rays contact our skin.  Our skin cells convert a compound into the form of Vitamin D our bodies need in order to carry out several important functions.

One of these functions (there are many more) is to help fight viruses that enter the lungs and respiratory tract.  A lot of research points to the fact that flu season peaks at a time when many of us are not getting adequate sun exposure (especially here in MN!).  So that is why this month we are offering a 20% discount off the already affordable Vitamin D.

Vitamin D deficiency is much more common than previously believed, especially in northern regions with dreary winters like Oregon and Washington, where sunshine from October to March is too scarce to maintain healthy levels. Taking a D supplement is an easy and inexpensive fix for depression and other ailments such as headaches that are cause by low levels of vitamin D.

Couldn’t agree more, Dr. Devine! We need to give the body sufficient amounts of the nutrients needed to express health (rather than chasing symptoms with medication).
