A case study was published recently that detailed the improved quality of life in an 11 year old girl following chiropractic care. She had been suffering from asthma and upon receiving chiropractic care – had amazing results.
Most people do not think of chiropractic when they think of treatment for asthma. In fact, many do not think of chiropractic when they think of the care they give their children. Possibly this is due to chiropractic being “only for back pain” in their own experience.
We have to deal a bit with semantics when we look at this issue however. Most chiropractors will tell you that they are not “treating your [Name your condition].” Chiropractors look for and correct what are called vertebral subluxations, and by correcting them, help to restore balance to the body.
So in the case of the 11 year old with asthma – she was not being treated for her asthma. The author noted, she had previously been diagnosed with “chronic allergies, sinus problems, dry skin, leg cramps and asthma which was previously managed with pharmaceuticals.”
Through a thorough assessment, her chiropractor noted that she had poor posture, abnormal neck curve, and subluxation.
Following a month and a half of care, this girl improved both structurally and functionally. Her subluxations were reduced and she noticed other functional improvements.
During care the patient was able to discontinue her medications, no longer has allergic symptoms and can breathe normally. Her sinus, skin problems and leg cramps also resolved. There were improved structural and functional changes concomitant with reduction of vertebral subluxation.
There is an old quote that says, “The part cannot be well unless the whole is well.”
The point of chiropractic is to restore balance and allow the recuperative power of the body to take over. This holistic view of health takes a larger view of overall function than merely addressing symptoms.
